Tonneau Case Define the 7009-8100

The case gives this Seiko a much stronger presence than a conventional round watch of the same period. At 38 mm wide and 42 mm lug to lug, the stainless-steel body uses broad brushed upper surfaces, polished bevels and sharply drawn shoulders that flow directly into the bracelet. The relatively short 42 mm length keeps the watch compact on the wrist despite its substantial width.

The case remains notably clean, with the original edges, brushing and polished transitions still clearly defined after nearly five decades.

Silver Dial with Blue Saturday Day-Date Display

The silver dial uses a fine radial finish with applied baton hour markers and a sharply printed black minute track around the perimeter. A doubled marker at 12 o’clock adds just enough visual weight to the upper half, while broad luminous-filled hour and minute hands maintain a practical, legible layout. The applied SEIKO signature and AUTOMATIC text sit below 12, with 17 JEWELS positioned above 6.

The framed day-date aperture at 3 o’clock is one of the strongest period details, with the Saturday indication displayed in blue against the otherwise monochrome silver dial. A slim central seconds hand completes the three-hand layout. The dial is particularly well preserved, with clean printing, bright applied markers and only minimal visible aging, giving the watch a crisp appearance that complements the sharp case.

Seiko Cal. 7009 Automatic Day-Date Movement

Inside is Seiko Cal. 7009, a 17-jewel automatic movement with central sweep seconds and day-date display. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers approximately 43 hours of power reserve. The movement uses automatic winding rather than manual winding and incorporates Seiko’s practical calendar system for setting the day and date.

The movement has been fully serviced and is currently running at approximately +3 seconds per day under present test conditions. That is a strong observed rate for a 1977 automatic watch, while remaining a current measurement rather than a permanent accuracy guarantee. A 12-month movement warranty is included.
