Movado is a Swiss luxury watch brand that was founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim. The company initially started out as a small workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, but it quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality timepieces. Movado is known for its distinctive, minimalist design style, which is characterized by clean lines and understated elegance. This design philosophy has been a constant throughout the brand's history, and it has helped Movado to establish itself as a leader in the luxury watch market. In the early 1900s, Movado began producing innovative timepieces, such as the Polyplan, which featured a curved movement that allowed the watch to follow the curve of the wrist. Movado also developed the Calendomatic, a watch that displayed the date, day of the week, and month, as well as the Moon Phase. In the 1940s, Movado introduced the iconic Museum Watch, which was designed by American artist Nathan George Horwitt. The Museum Watch featured a simple, minimalist design, with a single dot at 12 o'clock to represent the sun at high noon. This design has become one of the most recognized and iconic watch designs of all time and is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
