Glashütte is a small town in the state of Saxony, Germany, known for its rich watchmaking history. The town's history in watchmaking dates back to the 19th century, when Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded his watchmaking company in 1845, which later became A. Lange & Söhne. This marked the beginning of the town's reputation as a center for fine watchmaking. Over time, other watchmaking companies such as Nomos Glashütte, Glashütte Original, and Tutima established themselves in Glashütte, cementing the town's reputation as a hub for watchmaking excellence. However, the town's watchmaking industry was greatly impacted by the Second World War, as many watchmakers were conscripted or forced to work in other industries. In addition, the East German government nationalized many of the watchmaking companies in the town, including A. Lange & Söhne. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the town's watchmaking industry experienced a resurgence. Companies such as Nomos Glashütte and Glashütte Original were re-established, while A. Lange & Söhne was also re-founded by the great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange
