Fortis, Ref. 6158, Cal. AS 1703, Men’s Manual Wind
Applied numerals at 12, 9 and 6 balance a framed date window on the beige sunburst dial of this 1950 Fortis, reference 6158. Gold-tone triangular markers and faceted dauphine hands give the small 33 mm watch a precise, angular display. Its Swiss AS 1703 manual-wind movement uses 17 jewels and Incabloc shock protection.
Sunburst dial with a framed date
The beige-to-champagne radial finish shows light patina and age marks, particularly around the applied markers and outer edge. A printed minute track surrounds the numerals and triangular indices. Fortis appears in the upper dial, with 17 Jewels and Incabloc below; a gold-tone frame surrounds the date window at 3 o’clock.
Slender gold-tone dauphine hour and minute hands echo the facets of the markers. A thin central seconds hand completes the display. The handset shows aging consistent with the dial.
Gold-plated exterior and stainless steel back
Polished surfaces, straight lugs and a rounded bezel define the case, which measures 41 mm lug to lug with a 17 mm strap fit. Age marks and wear to the gold plating are visible. The acrylic crystal has light surface character and reflections, while leaving the dial clearly visible.
The stainless steel back is marked Fortis, Incabloc, Stainless Steel Back and Swiss. Its material is distinct from the plated exterior. A new adjustable black leather strap contrasts with the warm dial and case; it is a replacement accessory, while the watch-head components are original.
AS 1703 and ownership
The hand-wound AS 1703 powers the time and date display. Its Incabloc system provides shock protection for the balance assembly. The watch has been fully serviced and is fully operational. No box or papers are included. It comes with a 12-month warranty, with worldwide shipping from Vintage Watch Studio.
