Seiko 5 6309-5820 Men’s Automatic Dress Vintage Watch 1982

A light silver centre and anthracite outer ring give the Seiko 5 watch from 1982, reference 6309-5820, its two-tone dial. Gilt markers and gold-tone dauphine hands provide warmer accents, with white inlays in the hands. The 35 mm polished tonneau case and steel bracelet keep the watch compact, while automatic caliber 6309 supplies the mechanical timekeeping.

Two-tone face and gilt furniture

The lighter silver centre contrasts with the darker anthracite outer ring. Gilt indices and a gilt chapter ring surround that tonal arrangement, with applied rectangular hour markers providing the principal divisions.

The gold-tone dauphine hour and minute hands have white inlays. A gold central seconds hand sweeps across the face, continuing the warmer colour of the markers and chapter ring. The calendar supplies day and date indications.

Polished tonneau and contrasting bracelet surfaces

The stainless steel case measures 35 mm across and 40 mm lug-to-lug. Its polished tonneau shape and curved lugs give the head a compact, smooth outline. A recessed crown at 4 provides time and calendar adjustment.

The original steel bracelet has brushed outer links and polished central sections. Its two surface finishes complement the polished head and contribute to the dress watch’s coherent steel appearance.

The automatic watch uses Seiko caliber 6309, a 21-jewel movement operating at a model beat rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz. It powers the time display and day-date functionality.

The 5 line of Seiko watches began in the 1960s as an accessible mechanical range. Its design concept combines automatic winding, day-date display, durable construction, a recessed crown and water resistance. Water resistance is a design feature here; no current rating or pressure-test result is documented. The two-tone face and gilt furniture express the more decorative side of this early-1980s example.
