Seiko 66-9990, Cal. 66, Men’s Dress Vintage Watch, 1969

Sale price€220,00

Longer markers at the four quarter-hours give the silver-white dial of this Seiko 66-9990 watch from 1969 its quiet symmetry. A slight pearlescent effect softens the otherwise minimal display, with fine silver baton hands and central seconds. The polished steel case measures 33.5 mm across, housing the manually wound caliber 66 and accompanied by lightly textured black leather.

Silver-white dial with extended quarter markers

The dial has a silver-white colour and a subtle pearlescent visual effect. Thin applied silver baton indices keep its layout open, with longer markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 providing the principal reference points. The difference in marker length gives the face its measured symmetry without additional dial decoration.

The printing is limited to SEIKO and 17 JEWELS. Slender silver baton hour and minute hands follow the markers’ straight form, while a long central seconds hand provides the moving indication. The fine furniture and spare typography retain the watch’s restrained formal character.

Slim polished steel and discreet winding crown

The stainless steel case is highly polished, with a slim side profile, straight lugs and a proportionate bezel. Its 33.5 mm diameter is accompanied by a 40 mm lug-to-lug span and an 18 mm strap fitting. The diameter and span together describe a compact head with a longer outline than the dial alone suggests.

A small discreet crown sits at 3, providing manual winding and time setting. Its design and proportions suggest that it is original to the watch.

The black leather strap has a light texture. Its subdued finish accompanies the polished metal and pale dial, keeping the attachment consistent with the watch’s formal styling. The strap’s original or replacement status is not established.

Japan-produced caliber 66 and serviced condition

Caliber 66 was developed and produced in Japan. This manual-wind watch uses a mechanical movement with model specifications of 17 jewels and 18,000 vibrations per hour. Winding through the crown is part of the watch’s operation, while the slim movement suits the case’s restrained proportions.

The minimal dial, fine hands and compact polished case express the late-1960s design of this dress watch. Its character rests on the dial’s soft visual effect and the proportions of the markers rather than a heavily decorated face.

This used watch is fully serviced and fully operational, retaining its original dial, hands and case. A 12-month warranty is included, with worldwide shipping available.
