Seiko Ref. 6139-6012, Cal. 6139, Men’s Chronograph Vintage Watch, 1971
A matte black dial and white-and-blue inner tachymeter distinguish this Seiko 6139-6012 watch from 1971. Red timing hands accompany aged luminous rectangular markers and a bold day-date aperture, inside a 39 mm steel case with brushed surfaces and polished accents. Automatic caliber 6139 supplies the chronograph, while a brown canvas strap adds a textured contrast to the metal head.
Matte black with aged lume and coloured timing hands
The deep matte black dial limits reflections, giving the applied rectangular hour markers and their aged lume a clear setting. The rotating inner tachymeter scale is printed in contrasting white and blue. A clean elapsed-minute subdial at 6 balances the bold rectangular day-date aperture at 3.
The original baton-style hour and minute hands contain luminous inlays. A red central chronograph seconds hand is matched by the red minute-register hand, separating elapsed-time readings from the main handset. The layout keeps the calendar and timing functions identifiable within the dark dial.
Brushed steel and textured brown canvas
The stainless steel case measures 39 mm in diameter and 43 mm from lug to lug. Broad brushed surfaces meet polished accents, retaining this early-1970s watch’s surface contrast. Integrated lugs lead directly into the strap, keeping the overall profile cohesive.
A recessed crown at 3 provides time setting beside the chronograph pushers. Its tucked-in position follows the streamlined exterior while leaving the main controls accessible.
The brown canvas strap has a textured surface that contrasts with the steel and matte dial. The watch head retains its original components; factory originality of the canvas attachment is not established.
Integrated 6139 and the Bruce Lee nickname
The Japanese-made Seiko caliber 6139 is a fully integrated automatic chronograph. Introduced in 1969 among the early self-winding chronograph movements, it uses a column wheel and vertical clutch, with a model beat rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The reference is known by the Bruce Lee nickname through photographs of the martial artist wearing the model. That model context accompanies this example’s black dial and sports-chronograph construction.
This used watch is in excellent condition, with its original dial, hands, case, crown and movement retained. It is fully serviced and fully operational, with a 12-month warranty included. Worldwide shipping is available.
