Bronze counters, tachymeter and luminous steel hands

The matte black dial has three bronze subsidiary registers: a 30-minute counter at 9, a 1/10-second display at 3 and running seconds at 6. Applied baton hour markers and discreet lume plots leave the timing displays clear, with a day-date aperture at 3 and an inner tachymeter scale.

The polished steel hour and minute hands contain luminous inlays. A slim central chronograph seconds hand reads against the surrounding scale, while light-coloured subsidiary hands contrast with the bronze counters. The different surfaces distinguish the main time display from the smaller timing indications.

Faceted steel shoulders and integrated black inlays

The case measures 38 mm in diameter and 43 mm from lug to lug, with a 20 mm fitting. Sharply faceted shoulders and an integrated-lug profile flow toward the bracelet. A fixed smooth bezel sits beneath the crystal, preserving the angular character of this early-1980s watch.

Pushers at 2 and 4 and a corrector at 10 provide positive tactile feedback. The original unsigned crown sits at 3, matching the steel finish and lying flush with the case. Its machining and proportions remain consistent with the period control set.

The original integrated stainless steel bracelet has distinctive black inlay segments. A signed Seiko clasp closes the attachment and offers micro-adjustment. Its interior is stamped ALL STAINLESS STEEL / JAPAN B, preserving a specific marking alongside the case-to-bracelet geometry.

Quartz chronograph architecture and nominal specifications

This quartz watch uses caliber 7A38, the day-date development of Seiko’s earlier 7A28 analog quartz chronograph platform. A metal gear train and discrete serviceable components form its architecture, with three independent stepper motors serving the subsidiary and central chronograph indications.

The caliber’s nominal quartz frequency is 32,768 Hz, with typical rated accuracy around ±15 seconds per month. Those are model specifications rather than a measured result for this example. Chronograph reset returns the timing hands to their starting positions.
