Deep Blue Dial with Fine Diagonal Striping

The dial gives this Seiko 5 a noticeably different character from the plain silver and sunburst finishes more commonly associated with everyday 1970s automatics. Fine diagonal lines run across the dark blue surface, becoming more or less visible as the watch catches the light. Applied silver-tone baton markers sit cleanly against the darker background, with small aged luminous plots positioned near the outer ends of the hour indexes.

The applied SEIKO name and Seiko 5 emblem occupy the upper half of the dial, while AUTOMATIC is printed discreetly above 6 o’clock. A large framed day-date aperture at 3 o’clock adds the practical calendar display central to the Seiko 5 concept, with the colored day indication providing a small visual accent. Slim luminous-filled hands and a central seconds hand keep the display straightforward and highly legible without competing with the unusual striped dial surface.

Inside is Seiko Cal. 6319, a 21-jewel automatic movement from the broader 63-series family. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides central sweep seconds together with quick-setting day and date functions. The caliber is closely related to Seiko’s well-known 6309 architecture, but with the higher 21-jewel specification used in the 6319 version.

The movement has been fully serviced and is currently running at approximately -6 seconds per day under present test conditions. That is a strong observed rate for a mechanical automatic from 1977, while remaining a current measurement rather than a permanent accuracy guarantee. A 12-month movement warranty is included.
