Burgundy-Red Dial with Strong Applied Diver Markers

The dial is the clearest visual signature of this watch. Its dark red center shifts into deeper tones around the perimeter, creating a fumé effect beneath broad applied hour markers with bright metallic tops and darker raised bases. Those markers give the dial unusual depth for a watch of this size, while the wide luminous-filled hands keep the display fully in keeping with its diving-watch purpose. A framed date aperture at 3 o’clock, MONVIS AUTOMATIC signature and 25 RUBIS INCABLOC text complete a layout that feels functional but far from plain.

A silver-toned outer minute track adds another layer of contrast and reinforces the tool-watch character of the design. The luminous material and outer edge show normal age, but the dial remains highly attractive, with its red-black color transition, applied indexes and printed details all still clearly legible. The slim central seconds hand, with its small red-framed detail near the tip, adds a final accent without disrupting the overall balance.

Bakelite Timing Bezel and Compact Stainless-Steel Diver Case

The bezel is one of the defining features of Ref. 1.18. Its Bakelite construction is a distinctly vintage detail and gives the watch much of its period character. On this example the bezel shows honest age and wear, including fading and loss to parts of the scale, especially around the lower section, while still retaining the look that makes old Bakelite diver bezels so appealing. Together with the broad minute track and large crown, it gives the watch a more substantial presence than a conventional 35 mm dress watch.

The stainless-steel case measures 35 mm across, 41 mm lug to lug and 18 mm between the lugs. Those are compact proportions, but the wide bezel and strong case shape give the watch a short, sturdy stance on the wrist. The case shows normal signs of vintage use yet keeps its clear diver profile, with the oversized crown contributing to the purposeful look. When new, the model carried a 20 ATM / 200 metre rating; that original specification should be understood as historical and not as a claim of current water resistance. Collectors browsing similar pieces can compare it with other vintage diving watches in the collection.

ETA 2783 Automatic Movement with Measured +1 Sec/Day Performance

Inside is the Swiss ETA Cal. 2783, a 25-jewel automatic movement from ETA’s established 27xx family. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, offers quick-set date adjustment and has an approximate power reserve of 47 hours. That gives the watch a reliable and well-known mechanical foundation, combining period-correct Swiss automatic construction with everyday practicality.

The movement has been fully serviced and is currently running at approximately +1 second per day under present test conditions. For a vintage mechanical diver, that is an excellent observed rate, while still being exactly what it is: a current measurement rather than a permanent guarantee. A 12-month movement warranty is included, and buyers interested in comparable mechanically powered models can also explore other automatic vintage watches.

Original Tropic Sport Strap and Early Monvis Production Character

This example retains its original vintage Tropic Sport strap, an important detail because it suits the watch far better than a later generic replacement. The perforated black rubber construction keeps the correct period tool-watch appearance and reinforces the compact diver identity of the watch. Ref. 1.18 belongs to the original historical era of Monvis production in the 1960s and 1970s rather than the later revival of the name, which makes its combination of original strap, Bakelite bezel, ETA automatic movement and preserved dial especially appealing as a genuine period Swiss diver.
