Micro-Textured Silver Dial with Bilingual Day-Date Display

The dial is the feature that gives this 7009-8750 its individual character. Rather than a plain silver surface, it uses a fine repeating crosshatched texture that becomes much more apparent at close range and changes subtly with the light. Dark applied baton markers stand clearly against the pale background, while luminous plots around the perimeter and luminous-filled hour and minute hands retain the practical layout expected from a Seiko 5.

The framed day-date window at 3 o’clock is visually prominent, with Sunday displayed in red on the bilingual day wheel. The applied SEIKO name and Seiko 5 emblem sit in the upper half of the dial, while AUTOMATIC is printed discreetly above 6. The dial shows natural age around parts of the outer edge and luminous plots, but its distinctive texture, printing and applied furniture remain clear and well defined.

38 mm Stainless-Steel Case with Integrated Original Bracelet

At approximately 38 mm across and 42 mm lug to lug, the watch has noticeably more presence than many earlier Seiko 5 models while remaining compact from top to bottom. The broad stainless-steel case uses sweeping polished flanks around a brushed upper surface, creating a rounded cushion profile that flows directly into the bracelet. Its relatively short 42 mm length keeps the watch balanced despite the wide case.

The original Seiko stainless-steel bracelet is retained and is an important part of the design. Wide brushed links continue the visual width of the case rather than narrowing abruptly at the attachment point, giving the watch a cohesive late-1970s to mid-1980s appearance. The surviving factory bracelet also preserves the proportions intended for Ref. 7009-8750, rather than altering them with a later leather strap or generic replacement bracelet. Seiko Cal. 7009 Automatic — Serviced

The watch is powered by Seiko Cal. 7009, a 17-jewel automatic movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. It provides central sweep seconds together with day and date indication and uses Seiko’s efficient automatic winding architecture. Like many Seiko automatics of the period, the caliber does not offer manual winding, keeping the mechanism straightforward and focused on everyday automatic use.

The movement has been fully serviced and the watch is fully operational. It is currently measuring approximately +8 seconds per day under present test conditions, a strong observed rate for a mechanical automatic produced in 1984. That figure represents its current measured performance rather than a permanent accuracy guarantee. A Mechanical Seiko 5 from the Height of the Quartz Era

Produced in 1984, Ref. 7009-8750 comes from a period when quartz watches dominated much of Seiko’s output, yet the company continued developing durable mechanical automatics for the Seiko 5 line. The 7009 family became an important part of that mechanical continuity and sits between earlier Seiko automatic generations and the later 7S-series movements that would become familiar to millions of owners.

This particular example stands out through preservation and completeness rather than rarity claims. Its textured silver dial, original stainless-steel bracelet, original watch components, broad 38 mm case and serviced Cal. 7009 movement combine into a very complete representation of the Seiko 5 formula from the mid-1980s.
